Western Canada Sustainable Campuses Conference 2012
The Sustainable Campuses Conference is for students who want to learn how to become better engaged in creating sustainable universities.
The programming is relevant to students’ needs because students are planning the entire conference! This innovative conference will provide networking opportunities for students across Western Canada, inspiring keynotes, and engaging workshops and seminars.
This year’s theme is “Campus as a Living Lab:” How can campuses move from places of learning about sustainability, towards learning by doing? How can we find what we need, where we are? More importantly, how can we develop and leverage local culture, knowledge, and innovation with opportunities available to us on and off campus?

History:
Since 1999, the Sierra Youth Coalition Sustainable Campuses Program has partnered with Canadian Universities, such as Sustainable SFU, to offer Sustainable Campuses Conferences. These conferences have been supporting, documenting and sharing the efforts of young Canadians who implement environmental and social responsibility projects in their schools. This has resulted in the strengthening of a national network of hundreds of students collaborating in their efforts to make institutions of higher education leaders in sustainability. Conference hosts are selected through an application process. Past hosts have included:
2011: University of British Columbia
2010: University of Alberta
2009: University of the Fraser Valley
2008: Thompson Rivers University
