Julien Thomas, Coordinator
Julien is in his final year at SFU, completing his BA in International Studies and Dialogue Communications. Julien worked extensively within the campus sustainability community at Langara College before transferring to Simon Fraser, where he is excited to be creating new connections through his work on the conference. Julien continually seeks to blend creativity with activism, whether it is public art (www.stickshiftproject.com), film (www.peaceittogether.com/films/2011/gravedigging , or facilitation (www.lateniteart.com).
Cassandra Ly, Food Coordinator
Cassandra is a first-year student and was extremely excited to get involved with the planning of this year’s Sustainable Campuses Conference! She has always had a strong passion to learn about the environment and the importance of sustainability and through those, has gotten involved with the organization of climate change conferences in high school. Cassandra also loves getting involved with sustainable agriculture, especially by gardening! She truly believes that local and organic food will allow all delegates to build healthy and resilient communities through networking.
Kim Burgess, Marketing Coordinator, Logistics Coordinator
Kim is in her final semester at SFU, completing her BA in Communications, Political Science and Dialogue. After graduation, Kim hopes to work in event coordination and fund raising with non-profit and community organizations. In 2011, Kim was the event planner for Engage:SFU, a student-led dialogue on education, and was a member of the executive planning committee for Impromptu!, a gala fundraiser benefiting Places Des Arts scholarship and bursary fund.
Ashleigh Kolla, Programming Coordinator
Ashleigh is a 4th year student, working on an International Studies and Dialogue Communications Degree. She is currently on the board of Sustainable SFU and is excited about creating resources and opportunity for students to feel empowered. Ashleigh is inspired by bringing groups of people together to discuss contemporary world issues in an engaging and experiential atmosphere.
Hide Ozawa, Social Media Coordinator
Hide is in his 4th year of his BA in Communications. Hide has a shared passion for sustainable development as well as social media platforming. Hide’s focus is on international sustainability and communication systems, he is planning on completing his honour’s within the next year.
Rhea Bains Programming Intern
Rhea is a third year undergraduate student studying Chemistry. She hopes to increase her involvement within the campus community at Simon Fraser. Rhea is incredibly passionate about environmental and sustainability issues, and is very excited to help plan annual sustainable campus conference.
Ellen Dashwood, Programming Intern
Ellen is a grad student pursuing a Masters in Public Health in Environmental Health. She is also a Sierra Youth Coalition Executive Committee Member. Ellen is happy to be involved in a conference that brings together a diverse mix of students towards positive change in campus communities.
Justin Cook, Programming Intern
Justin is a first year student, working towards a sociology and Latin America studies degree. His passion for sustainable living and community development has drawn him towards the sustainable campus conference where he hope to further promote these ideals. Justin is excited to increase his involvement with Sustainable SFU, and many of the other campus organizations that planning the conference has brought him in contact with.
Connie Eng, Marketing Intern
Connie is a senior student working towards a Communicaions degree, and a Publishing Minor. She also has an interest in graphic designing as she begins yet another minor in Interactive Arts and Technology. Connie is always looking for ways to continue living sustainably, and finds that being involved with Sustainable SFU by helping them promote this Conference, is a great way to support sustainability on and off campus. She plans on graduating next year.
Matthew Bakker, Programming Intern
Born and raised in Vancouver, Matt is currently in his fourth year at Simon Fraser University pursuing a Bachelors in Human Geography along certificates in Sustainable Community Development and Spatial Information Systems. For Matt, sustainability is not an academic subject but a lifestyle and when free from school or work he’s getting lost in the mountain ranges of British Columbia or working on an education centred international development project in Kabala, Sierra Leone. Inspired by the dedication of his fellow students and the potential pent up in post-secondary institutions, Matt is excited to contribute to this amazing experience.
Kevin Chen, Marketing Intern
Kevin is in his 4th year working towards a Finance and Entrepreneur degree. He is looking for experience in the marketing field and glad to use his business knowledge to contribute to the team. Due to past networking experience, he is excited to meet diverse mix of people, who will be making changes for a better campus environment.
